Making an outdoor cob oven (all day workshop)
Instructor: Greg Allen
Learn from Greg Allen of the Mud Dauber School of Natural Building how to build an Outdoor Cob Oven. An Outdoor Cob Oven can be used to make pizza, bread, or anything you would cook in a regular oven. This workshop is also a good introduction to building with cob (clay, sand, straw mix) and natural plastering. Cob (and similar earth-based)ovens are built and used all over the world in many traditional cultures.

Growing Microgreens, Sprouts, and Shoots: Gardening in Small Spaces

Sprouts and microgreens require little space and are easy to grow. Enthusiast Hapi Auser shares the techniques and supplies needed to grow these important nutritionally power-packed vegetables in your home or homestead and have predictable vegetables year-round in limited space. Learn all the simple tricks for regular success, what materials are needed and good supply sources.

Lunch is included! A key part of the Folk School is community, and sharing a meal is one of the best ways we know of to get to know one another and build community. There are always plenty of options to suit various dietary needs, including gluten free, dairy free, meat free, vegan. If you have particular dietary restrictions that you’d like to share with us, of course just send us a message so that we can be aware of your need so that we can be sure to accommodate it or communicated clearly with you if we think we cannot.

One way to be more resilient is to diversify sources of income. Learn time-tested tips from folks who have started successful home or side businesses. We will cover the basic different business types, how to evaluate possible business ideas, basic legal and bookkeeping requirements for running a small business, marketing strategies, planning, pricing, and much more. It is estimated that as many as 40% of Americans presently have a 2nd job or additional side hustle in addition to their primary job. Additionally, many folks desire more control of their work situation, including the ability to work from home, reduce work or money stress, or just have more control over their daily schedule.

Fencing Basics - The Basics of Installing any type of fencing
While the materials may vary, the basics of installing any type of fence remain the same. Fencing can serve many purposes from being a decorative accent, to providing a support for climbing plants, to marking a boundary, to providing an enclosure to keep something in, to providing a barrier to keep something out, to creating separated space within a larger space, to allowing for privacy or to delineate private space from more public space. Learn the basics of fence building that are the same for all kinds of fencing (support posts, fencing materials between posts, connectors, bracing corners, etc. Also learn ways to install fencing to keep fence lines straight and accurate, simple tools to assist with fence building, and so much more. Led by Harvey Harman, who is a farmer/builder who has built and maintained many different types of fencing.
