Basketweaving
Join 4th generation and acclaimed basketmaker Eva Green for a hands-on workshop on basketmaking. Participants will hear Eva's amazing story of basketmaking passed down in her family for four generations, and how she has continued to evolve that family tradition and learn from other basketmaking traditions from around the world. For thousands of years, weaving natural materials into functional containers and baskets has been an essential skill. Learn basic basketweaving techniques. Each participant will weave a simple basket to take home and also get ideas and skills to continue making additional baskets.
Meet Eva Green
Eva Green is a fourth generation basket weaver. Eva was skillfully taught the art of basket weaving by her mother, Nadine Degraffenreaidt. Hand weaving baskets is Eva’s biggest passion. She really enjoys making intricate baskets. Weaving baskets with designs that are difficult to achieve provides a rewarding challenge for her.
Eva uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and other natural materials to dye the reed for her baskets. She has been awarded numerous ribbons for baskets and teaches locally at different community colleges. She is a member of the North Carolina Basket Association where she is on the Board of Directors. She is a member of the Chapel Hill Basket Guild, Chatham Weavers Basket Guild and the Chatham Artists Guild. You can also see more about her work and her baskets at her website: https://rabbitpatchbaskets.com/.
