Fiber & Folk Weekend

April 18-19, 2026

In Collaboration with the Piedmont Fibershed

There’s a long story of fiber here in North Carolina.

For more than a century, textile mills shaped whole towns across the Piedmont. Cotton and wool moved through looms day and night. Generations worked the spindles. Cloth connected farm to factory to family.

That story is still unfolding.

This April, we’re gathering in collaboration with the Piedmont Fibershed for two days devoted to fiber, fiber animals, plant dyes, hand skills, and the quiet satisfaction of making something useful with your hands.

It’s one of the most special weekends of our year.

Why Fiber Matters Now

Natural fibers are more than craft supplies. They’re part of a living system.

Wool returns to the soil. Linen and cotton begin in the ground. Plant dyes come from leaves, bark, roots, kitchen scraps. They cycle back safely when their time is done.

In a moment when PFAS and other “forever chemicals” are showing up in North Carolina well water, there’s something steadying about working with materials that break down naturally. Fiber connects us to land, animals, plants, and the people who tend them.
