How to Organize a Barn Raising/Shelter Raising Project

Instructor:

While the structure may vary, the fundamentals of barn raising remain constant. A barn can serve many purposes—from sheltering animals and storing tools, to hosting gatherings, supporting farm operations, or serving as a landmark that defines the character of a property. Discover the essential steps shared across all barn builds: setting solid support posts, framing and bracing, roofing techniques, siding options, and more.

Learn how to maintain straight lines and square corners, what tools simplify construction, and how to adapt techniques for different materials and layouts. The workshop is led by Harvey Harman, a seasoned farmer-builder with years of experience raising barns and working with rural architecture. Whether you're planning a new build or restoring an old one, this is a chance to build both skills and community.
